Working within the industries I do you can sometimes feel that the work you do is superficial and vacuous so I do try and cover worthy causes and endeavors where possible too…. Here is the latest charitable venture which caught my eye…but don’t worry there is still more than a dash of the glitz about it!!
Manchester City and Republic of Ireland International goalkeeper Shay Given, and his wife Jane, have announced exciting plans to host their eagerly anticipated Fashion Kicks event on Sunday May 15th, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, Beechwood Centre for Cancer Care in Stockport and the ‘Adopt a School’ project’.
Speaking of Shay who is A Patron and ardent supporter of Macmillan….
Manchester City CEO, Garry Cook said: “Shay and Jane’s passion and dedication over the years for raising funds for such great causes is an inspiration to everyone at Manchester City. As a result of Fashion Kicks, many unsung charities get the recognition and support, they so readily deserve. Jane and Shay not only have the Club’s unwavering support, but our up most admiration and respect also.
In its eight year history, Fashion Kicks has raised more than £900,000 for worthy causes. Jane and Shay are hoping to crash through that tricky but attainable £1m barrier with Manchester’s second year of holding the bash.
The Venue of The Point, Lancashire County Cricket Club’s newly developed £12m conference and events centre, will treat celebrities from the world of football, fashion and food to a sumptuous champagne reception with signature canapés designed by the Academy of Culinary Arts, in honour of the event. An indulgent dinner created by some of British’s top best chefs, including celebrity chefs and restaurateurs Paul Heathcote, Nigel Haworth, Terry Laybourne and The Ritz’s John Williams, will follow.
The climax of the night will be a fashion show hosted by Selfridges, which last year saw Carlos Tevez, Adam Johnson, Patrick Vieira and Gareth Barry, among other players strike a pose. The Manchester City stars will once again take to the catwalk to strut their stuff, modeling the new spring summer collections….. I bet this makes for swoon/cringe worthy moments in equal measure! After devouring the delicious food and gawping at the ‘models’ the event will conclude with a charity auction where funds raised will be going to the aforementioned charities.
Platinum guests will end the night at the chic after party, where bespoke cocktails will be served up by expert mixologists, whilst Joy Division/New Order legend the one and only Peter Hook plays some Hacienda classics in an exclusive Fashion Kicks DJ set…. doesn’t sound too shabby now does it??
Unfortunately I don’t have the sort of disposable income to treat myself to a ticket but I urge anyone with some cash to splash to get involved ….. It’s a great way or persuading your boyfriend or husband to take you on that long overdue night out… after all with the footballers (his idols) out in force he will be enjoying it as much as you!
Tickets for the event are priced £120 per person, with the option of purchasing tables which seat 10. A silver table will cost £1,250, a gold will cost £1,500, with a luxury platinum table costing £5,000.
