How is it already March!! My mum always said that the years fly by at a greater rate the older you get, but this is ridiculous! Before I digress into a fearful rant about aging……So this month is an important one as it marks the very early start to festival season. My first reports of the year will be from Southampton’s Takedown festival on the 18th, which looks to be a stonking introducing to onslaught of music events over spring/summer. Topping the bill are Welsh wonders Skindred, a band reliable in creating a great amount of crowd participation, thanks largely to their charismatic front-man Benji Webbe, who won’t have it any other way. One of my favourite interviewees of all time, Deaf Havana, are on the bill too so I will try and steal an undoubtedly humorous chat with them on the day. Lower Than Atlantis, faves of Zane Lowe, are currently on the road in Europe with the Young Guns chaps and are sure to attract one of the biggest crowds of the day. I will be interested to see what the newly crowned Natives have to offer, having welcomed them to the Cheer Up office last year in their previous guise Not Advised. Talking of Cheer Up, it will be grand to catch up with the lads from Don Broco who also paid us a visit and delivered an unbeatable acoustic cover in the shape of LMFAO’s Party Rockers.
If you’d like to attend and have the opportunity to witness 30+ artists of the punk, rock, metal variety, and let’s face it you’d be silly not to, then head to
