Music Potential is an initiative supported by Choice FM and Barclaycard that aims to put those who are
interested in a career in music into long term work placements, and
They have just run a series of taster dates, including a couple last weekend at the Roundhouse in London where young people could along and hear from industry figures such as
Natasha Mann from Island Records, Jamal Edwards from SBTV and singer
Angel (who is also Music Potential‘s Ambassador) about what it takes to
make it in music. Alongside hearing valuable advice from those who have progressed in the industry the attendees were given the opportunity to try their hands at DJing,
producing and song-writing.
The programmes will culminate in a large event at Wembley in January 2013 where
each student uses all the skills they’ve learned through work placements
between now and the New Year to take part and contribute to the event.
I popped down to the Roundhouse last Friday to see what the mass of talented young people were up to….
While I was there I caught up with some of the expects who were out in force that day including A&R man Ben Scarr, Wretch 32’s manager Zeon Richards, and Pierre of GRM Daily. Check out the interviews for their tips for success in the music industry!!
