I don’t have one go-to style – I constantly flitter between rockie, grungey, sporty, ladylike, retro, hippy and more. I’m the sort of person that wakes up and dresses according to my mood, occasion, or level of laziness. Today when I woke up I didn’t want to do my usual – ease in to my day by watching Everybody Loves Raymond and a couple episodes of Frasier. Instead I went straight to my Itunes and put on some music with a bit of heft and fire to them. Layers of guitars, break downs and/or some emo tinged lyrics. I dunno whether it’s because I had a bit of a low evening last night, one that saw me a bit unnecessarily teary, and I woke up wanting to feel stronger and more robust. Perhaps I wanted to start this fresh new day with a bang, and a little bit of a f*** you attitude…who knows. To go with this edgy sass I found myself abandoning my usual rather muted make up, instead opting for grungey eye make up – which is essentially adding red toned make up round the eyes that makes you look you’re getting over a virus.
I also found myself drawn to a different pile of clothes in my room than usual, a mound consisting of clothes belonging to my fella. This double sided Drop Dead beanie was actually the first item of clothing I put on, and I shaped the rest of my ensemble around it. I usually go for slouchy beanies, so it’s taken a bit of getting used to the more fitted style – hope it doesn’t make me look too much of a pin-head! I do love the fact you have two different looks in one though.
I’ve know I’ve practically been living in this Primark Jumper the last few weeks, but it just goes with everything, and I love anything in Khaki tones right now. There’s something effortlessly feminine about slightly oversized jumpers too – womanly without being too girly.
To add another textural element to the look I went for my faux leather trousers from Missguided. Whenever I wear them I am slightly fearful I look like Ross in Friends, but hopefully I just about get away with them. There was no way I was going to wear uncomfortable shoes today, as I was on a mission to get all the final bits and bobs for Christmas, so I wore my trusty DM style Topshop books, which are chunky enough to give the illusion that your legs are thinner than they are.
It was quite mild today, so there was no need for a thick jacket so Si’s Drop Dead Concrete jacket was actually the perfect lightweight solution. I love the statement back text too…pretty badass. I know I look quite boyish…but sometimes that’s how I feel. I know I wear some really girly things now and again, but my core is tomboy, and today I felt like embracing that.
What do you think of this look?
Are you a schizophrenic dresser like me?
